Honestly, I hesitated over the word fun in my blog title. Like lots of people (who aren’t kids) I’m kind of done with winter.
But we’ve got another snow day here in central Virginia.
And just as nature teased us with some thaw.
I decided not to wear my boots this day. Soaked my sneakers and socks. I was just a tad too optimistic.
But I have been finding some fun (I am, a kid at heart, I suppose).
A winter scene by Cold Fingers (aka me)
A walk at the mall. The frozen fountain was kind of awesome.
Finding a sunny spot to read.
I wish. This was me reading at the beach in 2013. #ThrowbackThursday
(I like to keep my fiction skills simmering.)
Β This cookie truffle has nothing to do with winter. I just like how it turned out.
And it’s kind of snowball-ish.
No caption necessary.
Β Me sledding last week.
In my own backyard.
What happens when a writer and an engineer are home for a snow day?
Check out the video!
What’s your favorite thing to do on a snow day? And if it’s summer where you are, tell me something warm. π
Happy Thursday!
I love the sled ride down the steps! I still love a snow day and the coziness of being snowed in. If I’m feeling ambitious, one of my favorite things to do is strap on snow shoes and take a walk in the woods around my house. Otherwise, read, cook, and bond with my teenaged son by watching an episode or two of whatever we are currently binge-watching together.

One of these days I want to try snow shoes! And I love cozy, bonding time too. π

Send you some warm if you send us some snow. We in the Pacific Northwest breadbasket sincerely appreciate the recent sunny weather, but know what we really need is ten feet of snow in the mountains, pronto.
You look very nice in a sledding dish. Who covered up the stairs? Happy snow day.

Nature covered the stairs, but then my hub and I packed more snow in!
Would not be surprised if one day you could order snow from Amazon. π
Hope you get some, Julia!

You and your husband saw fun in a set of wooden steps, a sloping yard, and heaps of snow. Too often we lose the gift of seeing possibilities. Thanks for the reminder to get out and play.

This stair luge was something I did as a kid when we lived in Indiana and I kept reminiscing about it until I finally said, Why not do it again?
Of course, my husband at first suggested we wear helmets. π

I am kinda done with winter, too… but as we all know – there is more to come. The good news is, is that the days are getting longer and I can feel it. We crested the 11 hour plus threshold earlier this week and we are on our way to even more – it’ll be 12H 09M on 3/21 just about everywhere. We’ve had three snow days – which if you have school-age kids, or are a teacher like me, equate to lost summer vacation days. But, I needed the extra time to procrastinate. I love your doodles and your artwork – keep being adventurous – it’s what keeps us alive and moving forward.

BTW – I like your new format!

I love the juxtaposition between the frozen fountain and the beach pics. But although the former is cool, I’d rather be in the latter. π

Fun video! That’s what I’d be doing too on a snow day. Hate to rub it in, but it’s not so cold in Oregon. Last weekend, I went on a weeding spree. Daffodil and crocuses are up. Winter has forgotten us, all focused on you.

Of course engineers can make anything! Cool! Really impressed with your artwork, Coleen. I’d love to be able paint birches in snow like that.

Thanks, Catherine! π
A couple years ago I saw a photo of birch trees in winter with a girl in a red cape and it inspired me instantly. I’ve been trying to make some kind of art with that inspiration since. I have a STACK of practice pieces. π

I enjoyed snowshoeing and cross country skiing in central park! But we haven’t had much snow this year just the bitter cold! That frown fountain is amazing!

Well, I wish we had a snow day here in California. We have had exactly zero snow days. It’s been in the 70’s already, flowering trees are almost done blooming, bulb flowers have emerged and are fading. Water rationing is in full force.
I’d take all of your snow and half of Boston’s right now. We so need the water. In August we’re going to dry up and blow away. And heaven help us if there’s a fire because the reservoirs are reduced to mud puddles.
So, enjoy that snow day.
I absolutely love your drawings. You should be doing something professional with that talent.
Have a great week!

Favorite thing to do when it’s snowy and cold outside? Hands down, stay inside with a good book, whether it’s one I’m writing, or reading! Although taking the car out to an empty parking lot to do some donuts does have its appeal… love the sled pics! Keep warm!

Love that snow picture you drew! Beautiful! And this is the first post that’s made me want to have snow here. Actually, for the reservoirs’ sakes, I really wish we had snow here. It is very springy…but it’s too early for that (as hard as that is to admit).

Right on Coleen! You and hubby rocked it! What else can you do with all that snow? The kids are away so go sledding! I have to say you are quite talented girl. That sketch is amazing. But I can’t believe how cold is in your neighborhood. It won’t let up. We’re hoping for some rain this weekend. Much needed as you know. So glad you had fun. Never be afraid to use that word. We’re never too old you know!
And where did you get that widget for the “Check here an Subscribe to notifications for new posts? that is checked automatically? I have been looking for something like that. I’m ready for spring, although this weather is really great for the muse. Lots of writing being accomplished.
Sledding is one of my favorite things to do, but it’s been too cold up here in NH to enjoy much of that. Yesterday, it was -14 degrees until mid-morning, then it climbed to a balmy 2.
Soon, we’ll have spring. Soon…

I’m done with winter too. Another delayed opening this morning.
