 WHEE!

What’s your favorite thing at the fair? Would you try a Twinx?

Happy first day of October!

*Not real. But a model horse, for sure.

** Okay so I was thinking about Dodge Ball. Far scarier.

  1. What fun! I’ve not been to the fair, county or state, in at least 5 years. I miss elephant ears (or funnel cakes…whatever deep fried dough they offer). :} I would probably try a Twinx; I’m really a sucker for anything deep fried. Love your photos!

  2. I love your adventure! It looks like a fun time. Not sure I’d be up for anything with a Twinkie in it, but I have to admit I ate a bite of its deliciousness at a fondue restaurant in Telluride. Yep. Chocolate covered.

  3. No thank you on the Twinx. And why were you surprised about getting so close to the horse – was it feral? Most horses are very social and friendly. Or is it you who gives off a “run away from me if you’re a horse” vibe?

Fairs are fun but I’ve stopped going to the county fair in my home town. It’s always the same ole, same ole. I do love the state fair and I try to go at least every other year.

I try to avoid the food, though. Deep fried weird stuff is not my thing.

As usual, I love your pictures.

      1. Plastic. Yes I can see that now. I thought it looked a little strange, but hey, I’m 50 now, my eyesight is not so good any more.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Oh, and please don’t make this math problems any harder or I might not be able to leave a comment. I’ll have to get out my calculator. And if it goes to alegebra, it’s been nice blogging with you. 🙂

      2. If it goes to algebra, then I will be locked out of my own website! I have to solve a math problem just to get to it. They should make captchas that have to do with chocolate or food or wine, right?

  4. TWINX??? Hell yeah! My favorite thing at the Ohio State Fair is the food – especially deep friend Snickers, but TWINX sounds, like, 10X better!! I used to like the rides, too, but the older I get, the less I like crowds so that kind of cancels it out. But for TWINX, I might brave the crowds…

      1. I guess you scared it by saying you were game enough to try Twinx!
And I’m with you on the crowds, which is why we went first thing in the morning. Also, early is a good time to go if one is trying to avoid the food, bc turkey on a stick smells weird at ten in the morning!

  5. Looks like a lot of fun. I must protest over the Twinx, though. I love Bacon and I Love a good Twix. I’m just not sure that’s a good combination. We are lucky to live about an hour from our state fair in Colorado. So, it makes it a very easy trip to make and a fun way to spend the day. For kids, they have “sandboxes” filled with beans and corn. Makes for a fun play break for Enzo.

  6. No, can’t say I’d eat a Twinx. Not much of a fan of Twinkies, but I love bacon and Twix bars. I like the animals most at a fair. The rides terrify me because they all creak and sway, and I can’t stand Ferris wheels. I’m actually kind of joy-killer at fairs. But, give me some fried dough, and I’m a happy girl.

  7. Coleen loved the fair and hope your day was fun. My picture book is at the fair and I will need to go to a local one soon to get some inspiration and reference for my illustrations. Thanks for sharing. Kath

  8. Wow, it’s been a pretty long time since I’ve gone to a carnival. Used to love the games, enjoyed most of the rides ’til I’d end up vomiting OR got old enough to fear safety issues! lol

    The Twinx—naaaah, I don’t think so! lol

Looks like you had fun, Coleen 😀

  9. Love these kinds of fairs and festivals. They are wholesome fun and there is something very Americana about them.

    Plus, TWINX! I’ll try one!

  10. Thank you for sharing. This looks like a lot of fun. I am not sure what that is but the one shot showing a person jumping off into that inflated pillow looked a little like fun. 🙂 I’m a big chicken and don’t really go on rides, but I love trying some deep fried goodness. Did you have any of those things to eat? If so, what did you have? Anything worth sharing?

    1. I think the jump is called AirBag? Which makes sense bc that’s what it looks like, a giant air bag!
I didn’t try any of the food (food allergies–boo!). But as a kid, I always loved funnel cakes!!!

  11. Fun and unique photos as always. You really capture action and beauty well. Not sure I’d try the Twinx. Did you? Grew up going to the Ohio State Fair. Best thing about it is the food and the dairy area where they carve cows, astroauts etc out of butter.

  12. So, did you jump off the platform onto the big pillow? That looks totally scary to me and now many ski resorts have them as well — jumping into a big pillow while wearing skis does not sound like a fun time!

Thanks for the refreshing fall break in my day. I’m heading to Maine’s Fryeburg Fair over the weekend, and my favorite thing to do is bet on the harness racing. Very fun to take home $2 or $3 in winnings, plus it is something I did a long time ago with my father.

    1. I didn’t jump this time–but I have to admit I wouldn’t do the ski thing. That sounds like a twisted ankle waiting to happen!
Hope you have fun at the fair, Dianne. 🙂 It’s fun to do things we did as kids every now and then.

  13. Ooh, that looks like a lot of fun! I love the wheel planter. That is super cool. State fairs. Wow, I cannot tell you how long it’s been since I’ve attended one. It’s been a long time Coleen. My favorite part was all the rides. But now they have some great music acts for entertainment which makes for a fun evening. Looks like you had a wonderful time! 🙂

  14. Good morning – love the fair… we were at one a couple of weeks back and it was a tonic we all needed…. a sort of cleansing of the soul. I wouldn’t eat a twinx and try like the dickens to avoid most fair foods, but I do love an elephant ear. The fair we attended had all sorts of animals and my kids were especially drawn to the sheep and the goats. A couple of years ago we watched a calf being born in the dairy barn.. not for the faint of heart. Have a wonderful week and enjoy the fall weather.

  15. Wow. okay. I totally get Twinkie + Twix = Twinx
But why does Twinkie + Twix + Bacon = Twinx? Not Bwinx? Twinxon?
And why would you mess with a Twix anyway? They are pretty much perfect.
For some reason wrapping a twinkie with bacon sounds totally reasonable. It’s like a snack pack. But definitely what you eat AFTER the rides. I would not want to get Twinx-uped on.
