It’s the second week of the Warm Fuzzies Blogfest and the talented Juliana Brandt has offered up another task:
“This week, we’ll cater to those of us who are completely possessive over our WIPs (work in progress) and don’t want to give anything too telling away. Instead of posting something intimate about our writing, post a picture or piece of music that describes your WIP.
What do you look to when you write? What inspires you? How else do you use your creativity? Music? Pictures? Art?”
When I write, I often have a playlist. Here is a music video (and lyrics) for one of the more influential songs in my contemporary YA WIP (the one in the editing stages, NOT my NaNo project).
So let me know what you think my story is about!
LULLABY by SIA
Send a wish upon a star
Do the work and you’ll go far
Send a wish upon a star
Make a map and there you are
Send a hope upon a wave
A dying wish before the grave
Send a hope upon a wave
For all the souls you failed to save
And you stood tall
Now you will fall
Don’t break the spell
Of a life spent trying to do well
And you stood tall
Now you will fall
Don’t break the spell
Of a life spent trying to do well
Send a question in the wind
It’s hard to know where to begin
So send the question in the wind
And give an answer to a friend
Place your past into a book
Put in everything you ever took
Place your past into a book
Burn the pages let them cook
And you stood tall
Now you will fall
Don’t break the spell
Of a life spent trying to do well
And you stood tall
Now you will fall
Don’t break the spell
Of a life spent trying to do well
Ouch. Lost my comment. Let’s see if I can recreate my guess: Teen wants to fulfill her dream even though it doesn’t match her personality or what others think she should do before her death. Otherwise: no clue.

Hmm…
Thomas loses his memory of his dead older sister in an experiment gone wrong. She desperately tries to reach out to him, but can only make contact with his best friend. Together they try to pull the lost memories out of Thomas, using ghostly spells to unlock the deepest parts of his mind. But what they find is much more frightening than a lost memory.
Maybe… 🙂

Wow, that is a powerful song. I was totally moved listening to it. I could feel a sense of looking back at one’s life, their accomplishments, failures, loves…redemption, forgiveness or at least the attempt to forgive. Acceptance.

Hi Coleen! Is it a paranormal romance of some sort? Paranormal something??? That’s my best guess. Great poem! 🙂

Lovely, poetic song. It makes me think contemporary about a heroine trying to find herself amidst a chaotic life.

Hmmm…. I’ll bet it’s about a robot named Ryan, who spends his life trying to prove his humanity by performing random acts of kindness. But when he discovers that he is actually programmed to destroy the entire world, he must fight the sudden, powerful urges to be violence or risk becoming a monster. Can he find a way to reprogram himself to avoid the destiny his creators have made for him? Or will he give in to the temptation to control the entire world as Evil Lord Megaryan?

A boy thinks there is no one in the world that he can love, so he writes his last words for the world and throws them in a bottle out to sea, only to be discovered by a mermaid who saves him from his suicide attempt. He realizes his love for her, but can’t live with her and tries to figure out why he was saved if only to have sadness?

The elevator has crashed and a boy and a girl who both happen to be very troubled and who have never met before are both stuck on it for hours and they end up pouring their hearts out to each other and after interacting throughout the rest of the story which happens to be a school play they end up falling in love? Great song!

I am rubbish at trying to figure out a WIP through song lyrics. I do love Sia though.

Sounds like someone is about to burn some bridges and follow a new path. Perhaps the MC has decided to sacrifice his life for someone he loves.

Wow, what a haunting song. I would say your WIP is about a supernatural being lamenting over the people they couldn’t save?
I love the background of your site. It’s so pretty!

Oops. Not sure what happened to my first comment so I’ll just write it again.
I’m guessing your WIP has something to do with a supernatural being who laments about the people he/she failed to save?

Thanks so much all. I think there’s an element in all your guesses, except no mermaids for sure (even though I love stories about them!)
