Hi all! Today I’m featuring a sparkly, new book by YA author, Leigh Talbert Moore.
I became a fan of Leigh’s writing after reading her first book, The Truth About Faking, and I’m happy to report the companion book (they can be read out-of-order) is out now!

by Leigh Talbert Moore
The Truth About Letting Go takes readers back to Shadow Falls, or more specifically Shadow Creek, with Ashley Lockett as she learns about friendship, love, and letting go.
Ashley wants to smash everything in her once-perfect life.
Charlotte wants to walk in Ashley’s seemingly charmed shoes.
Colt wants to turn Smalltown USA on its ear–with Ashley at his side.
Jordan wants to follow his heart–but Ashley is the one sacrifice he never expected to make.
Up until now, Ashley Lockett has followed the rules. She’s always done the right thing, played it safe, gone to church. And then her ideal life is shattered when her dad dies suddenly.
Now she’s miserable and furious, and she decides to do everything opposite of how she lived before. She rejects safety, rules, faith, and then she meets Jordan.
Jordan has big dreams, he’s had a crush on Ashley for years, he’s a great kisser… but he’s also safe.
Enter Colt. He is not safe, and he’s more than willing to help Ashley follow her plans.

EXCERPT
I feel Colt laugh, and he looks down into my face. That’s when he seems to realize what I’ve been acutely aware of for the last several minutes—our bodies are pressed together.
“It’s awesome, yeah?” he says. “Adrenaline rush.”
“Yeah,” I breathe. “I guess.”
I’m not sure if he’s going to kiss me until he does. His mouth covers mine, and energy mixes with the alcohol flooding my body. Our tongues slide together, and I grip his shirt so I don’t collapse.
Every single bit of this is wrong, and there’s no way I’m stopping it. It’s back, that good feeling. The sadness has been pushed out again, and in its place is this rush, this rush of adrenaline like Colt said.
He pulls back and smiles at me. “We’re going to start dating. Now. You’re my partner in crime.”

ON PLAYLISTS AND INSPIRATION, LEIGH SAYS…
I made a playlist to remind me of certain scenes or what I wanted to happen in the timeline. Or in some cases, the songs reminded me how the character was feeling or his/her mindset or mood. Sometimes there was a line in a certain song that made me think of something that happened…
Breaking the Habit by Linkin Park
Breakdown Into the Resolve by Ryan Adams & The Cardinals
Thnks Fr Th Mmrs by Fall Out Boy
These songs all have that driving feeling that put me in Ashley’s mindset. Especially “Breakdown…” by Ryan Adams. Certain phrases in that song make me think of her angry despair and just her inner turmoil, her questions.
Here Comes Your Man by Pixies–Jordan, obvs
Zanzibar by Billy Joel and Missionary Man by Eurythmics–Jordan has to drive his mom’s ancient Toyota, and he and Ashley are forced to listen to her old music. These are two of the songs directly referenced
I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift–Colt, obvs
Play With Fire by The Rolling Stones–This could be Ashley + Jordan or Ashley + Colt. Both of those couples are playing with fire in different ways.
A Little Bit of Everything by Dawes–this song sounds like an old hymn, which to me felt like the soundtrack to Ashley’s ultimate realization and finding peace. Plus, the message of this song is just so great. It’s a realization that it takes “a little bit of everything” to make a life.
Strangers by The Kinks–ditto above about the soundtrack to Ashley’s “walkabout.”"Fireflies” by Fleetwood Mac–This to me sounds like being on the creek and the things that happen there, which is a lot.

Great post, Coleen, and thank you for the introduction to Leigh Talbert Moore – the premise of the book sounds just awesome, and I love the idea of the playlist to work out parts of the book; what a great concept! I’m looking forward to reading more. Congratulations, and all the best with the new book. ~ Julie
I love playlists too! Gives the story an extra element. Thanks Julie.
Sounds like a great book! I really like the playlist, especially the Ryan Adams and Dawes songs!
Yeah, I’d never heard of it. Pretty cool. Thanks to Leigh for the heads up!
I’d like reading about a character who always does the smart thing, then gets tired of it! Music inspires me too.
That’s the same thing that intrigues me too!
Thanks so much, Coleen! yaay for musical inspiration! That Dawes song. It’s a book all by itself, yes?
And thanks to the commenters–hope you like the book!
Happy reading~ <3
Your welcome Leigh! Just started TTALG last night. Can’t wait to get back to reading.
Sounds like a cool story. I liked how we got to hear about the songs the author wrote to.
Enjoyed this post Coleen and meeting Leigh. Although you stated that the books can be read out of seq. Inion wants to start with, “The Truth About Faking.” She had been told about the book by another networking buddy, several months back, but our “Reading wish-list” was so packed at the time that we wanted to put a serious dent in it before committing to anymore books. Looking forward to this read. And by the way, We have nominated you for “The Reality Blog Award”. We have always enjoyed reading your posts and felt this was perfect for you. Aw, thank you! You two are so sweet and supportive!
