Slopestyle: I’m Gonna Need a Bigger Cup of Coffee

Need a little Monday boost?

Check out the new event at the winter Olympics: Slopestyle.

Snowboarders + obstacle course = super cool flips and revolutions with names like The Holy Crail (ie 1620 Japan Air Mute Grab), the backside triple cork 1440 (three head-over-heels flips and four full revolutions), a cab double cork 900, or the switch stance backside 540.

I feel energized just writing it all down.

Are you watching the Winter Olympics? What’s your favorite event?

Happy Monday!

  1. I am amazed when I watch the slope style events. How do they not get dizzy? My personal favorite event is figure skating – not quite as exciting as slope style, but impressive nonetheless. I certainly can’t get my body to do half those tricks!

    • I like figure skating too, but talk about dizzy!! I have no idea how they don’t get sick!

  2. All of it yay! I’ll link to this :)

  3. I agree! Slopestyle has been really engaging. I also found myself staying up way too late last night to watch…gulp…ice dancing. I’ve always kind of turned my nose up at ice dancing but they made the back stories so interesting I couldn’t help but watch. And the pair from the USA is really, really good!

    • I caught a bit of ice dancing–it’s pretty amazing too! Thanks, Jenny.

  4. I haven’t yet. I watched a lot of pre-Olympic interviews, etc. Now I’m behind on other stuff. I’m sure I’ll watch some figure skiing … I always do.

  5. Such a cute doodle! Nope, don’t watch the Olympics…unless it’s men’s high dive jumping. Or men’s gymnastics. That’s kinda cool.

  6. I love watching the Olympics! I’ve been watching as much as possible, I saw most of the men & womens slopestyle event, it was pretty awesome. I’m always in awe when I watch things like that because I can’t imagine doing it myself. My favorite event is ice skating. The ice dancing pairs last night were fantastic!

    • Yes, I’m with you, couldn’t see myself on that snowboard at all. I can’t even imagine dropping in, let alone hopping on those rails! Yikes.

  7. I have been intrigued by the slopestyle as well. Although my favorite even is still the ice skating.

  8. Snow boarding event are fun, but my favorite venue are all of the figure skating events.

    • Yeah, if I could pick one winter sport to be magically good at, I’d pick figure skating!

  9. Not watching. My favorite event is the closing ceremony.

  10. They should have a competition for coffee drinking!

I watch some of it, epecially the Ice Hockey and Snowboarding. Those are the best.

    I still don’t get curling.

    • Well, they seem to add new events every year, so maybe coffee will make the cut one of these days. :)
And ditto curling. Not even the name makes sense to me!

  11. I watch very little TV, but I do like to watch a little Olympic action! Figure skating is probably my favorite. Your doodle is adorable!

    • Thanks, Jennette! Figure skating is definitely getting the gold in the comments here. :)

  12. I am loving the Olympics. I had included Sage Kostenburg’s tweets before he won gold! Maybe I should start placing bets, or not.. :)

    • I love the Sage quote, “I just winged it.” Classic. :)

  13. I watched the slope style. It was indeed pretty exciting. And those guys doing the downhill at 85 mph? Seriously? I’m afraid to even drive that fast.

    • Same here. I can’t fathom the downhill speed plus jumping on a rail and doing flips. Too extreme for me!

  14. I LOVE the Olympics, and the ski/snowboarding events are my absolute favorite! The hubs and I have it on all the times we’re home. Can’t get enough. It’s SO COOL.

  15. I love your sketch! Think I need to pin that on my office wall. And I’d love to see the figure skating, but I honestly have no idea what is on or when. Clearly, not a big priority. But very worth admiring…from the armchair :)

    • Aw thanks, Alarna. I feel like I’m an armchair EVERYTHING lately. I’ve been blaming the cold weather, but kind of hard when I see what these Olympic athletes are doing in the snow!

  16. I love watching the figure skating!

    • Me too! It’s amazing how inspiring it’s been this year. Even the terrible moments of falling, to see them get back up and continue skating. Wow.

  17. I LOVE watching the Olympics, but it does make me feel like a couch potato :)

    • I know what you mean. I kind of feel like I need to be marching in place while I’m watching!

  18. I’ve always wondered whether bodily immersion in coffee would create effects similar to drinking it, and now our feathered friend depicted above is about to educate me on that very subject. I know I get somewhat of a contact high just by walking into the coffee shop, so it stands to reason that it might work.

    • I know, there’s something about the smell of a coffee shop that instantly perks me up too!

  19. Mathair loves figure skating and she never misses a showing… or game… Not sure what the events are called. I’m not one for athletics, though I try to tune in to the Olympics and show my nation’s pride by supporting them always. I also have a tremendous respect for athletes in general. Their dedication to the sport is impressive and inspirational. I did catch the slopes, though, and was dealing with my own wuss version of motion sickness. Good Lord! How do they do that kind of thing. I’m with 4am writer on this, how do they not get dizzy?! Great post, Coleen. Sharing now. ;)

    • I have no idea how they stop the dizziness! I get dizzy in the car on a bumpy road. :)

  20. Hi Coleen, yes Inion’s visited your post & left a hefty comment but I promised her I would swing by & check out two things that she absolutely loved. First she thinks your penguin pic is utterly adorable! (which by the way it is!) And secondly the really cool word spinning thingamajiggy on the right side of your blog page made Inion go crazy! She wants one. Okay, she’s right about that too!! Please tell us your secret! How did you get the names to rotate like that cuz it is super-duper cool! No worries if you want to keep it a secret but then you’ll have to put up with Inion & I stopping by & watching your names roll!! lol. Did we just turn into two six year olds….yep! ;) Love Holy Crail btw & totally voting for a coffee event at the Olympics, yay Regular Guy!!

    • No secrets here. ;) It’s called a tag cloud, WP Cirrus. You can customize it with the number of tags, etc. It’s fun. As always, thanks so much for your support!
